Caretly runs a Model Context Protocol server at https://caretly.dev/mcp. Connect it to an AI assistant and you can ask it to preview a label, convert ZPL to PDF, or check this month’s usage, without writing any code. The server uses the same API keys as the renderer. It sends your key to the renderer and the console for every call, and stores nothing.

Get a key

Create a key at caretly.dev/console/keys. See Authentication for the details.
Use a test key. Labels get a TEST watermark, but renders are free, and test keys read your organisation’s usage and billing just like live keys. An assistant may render a label more often than you expect.
With a live key, every label the assistant renders is billed, like any other request to /render.

Connect your assistant

The server speaks Streamable HTTP. Send your key as Authorization: Bearer <key>.
These config files hold your key in plain text. Don’t commit them to a repository.

Tools

The usage and billing tools return the same data as the Console API. All of them are read-only: the assistant can’t create, renew or revoke keys, or change your billing.

Try it

Once connected, ask your assistant things like:
  • “Render this ZPL and show me the label: ^XA^FO50,50^A0N,50,50^FDHello^FS^XZ”
  • “Convert label.zpl to a PDF at 300 dpi.” (Set dpmm to 12.)
  • “How many live labels did we render this month, and what will it cost?”
  • “Which API key was used most last month?”

Errors

A request without a key, or with something that isn’t a Caretly key, returns 401 with WWW-Authenticate: Bearer, before any tool runs. Errors from the renderer and the console, such as an expired key, a 402 for paused billing or a 429 rate limit, come back to the assistant as tool errors with the same message. See Authentication.
